5-4 win over the Drillers box score The Drillers were a tournament-quality team that routinely crushed the other teams in our league, including us in a rainout makeup the day before this game, the last one of the spring season. Obviously still pumped from that win, they showed up swaggering and came out swinging...and popping out, flying out, and otherwise not putting up ten runs an inning like usual. Called in on short notice for this rare Saturday makeup game, Kevin pitched masterfully, holding the Drillers' team of big bats to 0-0-3-0-0-1-0 runs in seven innings. Unfortunately, we'd managed only one run ourselves, so we were down 1-4 heading into the bottom of the seventh with the bottom of our order coming up. And then, we got a hit. And another hit. And before we knew it, we'd tied the score 4-4 and Thomas was on second representing the winning run. Doris came up to bat and smacked a line-drive single, Thomas never even slowed down at third, and scored just ahead of a great throw - giving us the win over the best team in the league (and, as it turned out, knocking them out of playoff contention.) |

25-21 win over High Balls box score This was a game of sudden, big scoring innings. They scored 13 in the bottom of the first; we scored 12 in the top of the third. After four, and with the clock winding down, they were up 19-13. So naturally, we scored 12 more, and held them for the win. This was the last game of the summer season, and this win put us in the playoffs. All ten of us got five at-bats and had at least one walk, and Gregg had 6 rbi. |

12-11 win over Hi-Top Sports Bar box score Hi-Top has played under many names over the years as their sponsors kept changing - Mellow Mushroom, International Bowl, Irish Bred, and Shockers - but they could always be counted on to have five good guys, two or three good women, and one or two pickup women. They could also be counted on to start whining whenever we walked against their pitchers, and we'd beaten them that way twice in the past. This time, however, we only had one walk, meaning we hit...eleven singles, seven doubles, a triple, and a home run. And just one measly little walk. We ended the sixth tied 11-11, held them to nothing in the top of the seventh, and then scored a single run to end the game. And there was no whining about us walking. |

special DOUBLE-HEADER pair of wins over Dakota, 13-12 and 14-8 first game box score and second game box score We'd never been able to beat Dakota, and due to many rainouts, our regular season ended with this back-to-back rainout makeup double-header in November. The first game wasn't looking good after four innings, as we were down 9-1. But we held them to nothing and scored two in the fifth, then both teams had a scoreless sixth. They got four in the top of the seventh, but we came back with eight - exactly what we needed to tie the game 12-12 and force an eighth inning. We held them scoreless in the top, then Thomas led off the bottom of the inning with a double. After a flyout by the female batter, Gregg came up and shot a single past a leaping infielder, and Thomas scored a second ahead of the throw to end the game. We must have shaken them up a little, because they didn't score much the second game. Still, since our team likes to make it exciting, we didn't score much either; after five full innings, we were down 6-8. The sixth inning started and was declared the last inning, so we bowed up and scored eight to take a commanding 14-8 lead. They went meekly in order in the bottom and we had a double win against a tough team to end our season. |
