26-25 win over Mixed Nuts box score No, this wasn't the McCoy Mixed Nuts team, but instead some green-shirt-wearing crew that was new that season. They scored plenty, though, putting us in a 13-25 deficit after four and a half innings. As we came to bat in the bottom of the fifth, the umpire let us know that time had expired, so basically we had to score thirteen runs while not making three outs, if we wanted to win the game. Of course, we specialize in doing that very thing, so we got to it. We did it the hard way though - after David led off the inning with a moon shot over the fence (14-25) we followed with our first out, a double, and our second out. Now we had to score twelve runs without making a single out. With the pressure on, could we do it? A double and three singles later, a triple unloaded the bases and then the other team started cursing and arguing as the score rolled around to 20-25. Two singles, a walk, a double, and a walk made it 22-25 and then Packy doubled in two, putting the tying run (Theresa) at third and the winning run (himself) at second. Moe took a walk to load the bases and give BJ a chance to win the game, and he hit a line-drive single. Theresa scored to tie it and Packy was sent home...and slid around the tag to score and win the game! |

13-12 win over Buns and Hoses box score This new team didn't really understand all the rules, but they had some good players, and after a close game, they came back on us, ending up ahead 12-10 after six and a half innings. We had to come back in the bottom of the seventh, and eventually we did: with one out, Ashlee scored from third on Pete's single for a walk-off win. |

10-9 win over Aces box score I almost hesitate to include this one, because a pickup player was key to the win, but then I realized that every other team has pickup players and that shouldn't really mean anything. We were down 5-9 going into the bottom of the seventh against a good, confident team that usually beat us. Not this time. Two singles, a walk, two more singles, and a fielder's choice tied the game and put our sub, Ethan, on third as the winning run. A groundout advanced the runner from first to second, eliminating a force-out there, but Ethan couldn't advance. With two outs, Kevin singled right between short and third to plate Ethan and complete the come-from-behind win. |

14-13 win over St. Joseph's box score This team features many good players, some of whom play with us on other days. They had owned us for this entire Sunday game, though; after five complete innings, the score was 11-2 in their favor, and the umpires let us know that this would be the last inning. We mixed five walks with some singles and ended up ahead 14-11, and this is where things got strange. Long story short, they scored two runs in the bottom of the last inning to make it 14-13 and they needed one more run to tie the game. The third-base coach sent another runner around third on that same play, but he got tagged out before reaching home plate, and then tossed from the game for trying to take out our catcher. That made two outs, and the next batter grounded out weakly to end the game and give us the 14-13 win. |

9-10 loss to Shockwaves box score This was the second game of our fall 2008 season, and really the only one I was worried about winning. Shockwaves is another one of those tournament-caliber teams that almost always flattens its opponent; fortunately, I had a really strong, fast team to pit against them. Minimal hitting and great defense on both sides resulted in us being only slightly behind, 6-7, after six innings. We scored three in the top of the seventh to take a 9-7 lead, but they made it 9-8 with a runner on third as their big slugger came up to bat. I'm not sure if the ball he hit has landed yet. We lost 9-10 but we proved something against the best team in our league (and all of the other teams who were watching.) I have no doubt that we would have gone 9-1 or 8-2 if this season had finished out (we'll never know, because vandalism to the lights cancelled the season after this night's games.) epilogue: we finally did beat them on 10/8/09 by a score of 15-12 |

22-10 win over Philips box score There were no huge innings or key hits in this win, but it's significant to me because we beat the real Philips team - not a half-team of subs. This was a real win against a real tough team that had all of its superstars...and we still started the game with a 13-run top of the first that kind of took them out of it. |
