15-14 win over Slugfest box score It had been a while since we'd beaten Slugfest, and their coach always likes to rub it in. This time, we rubbed it in by leading them the entire game. The win was even better because we had a ton of people, including some of our weaker players, and we still beat their regulars. The Slug got squashed this time. Todd Edwards wept. |

2-6 loss to West Cobb Burgundy box score This one was a loss, but allowing the best team in the league to only score six runs in seven innings is quite an achievement. If only we'd hit a little more, we could have shocked the world. (Actually, later this year, we did shock the world...keep reading.) |

13-9 win over G-Force box score G-Force had only lost about 5 games in the last decade at Blackburn, but this time we hit with them and played defense with them, and came out on top. You can't even blame it on them getting old because we've aged right along with them. |

22-16 win over Dakota (post-season tournament semifinals) box score Dakota had crushed us in the regular season, 20-5 and 25-9, and they weren't even sweating their game with us at 7:30 as they watched us win a close one at 6:30 by a 5-2 score. Some of our players even heard some of theirs discussing their strategy for the tournament championship game...they weren't even worrying about their semifinal game with us. We changed that by scoring ten runs in the first two innings and another eleven in the third; at that point, we'd taken a commanding 21-7 lead, and we ended up winning and going on to the tournament finals...while Dakota just went home. |

9-8 win over George's box score George's was a new team that contained some familiar faces, and they'd beaten us in the season opener 17-16, which didn't sit right with us. This rematch was a tight game, with nobody scoring through three entire innings. We put two on the board in the bottom of the fourth and another in the bottom of the fifth and were leading 3-0. They woke up and scored three in the top of the sixth, but we came back for three in the bottom. See what I mean? It was a tooth-and-nail fight the whole way, for both teams. They came out swinging in the top of the seventh down 3-6, and scored five times to pull ahead 8-6. A series of simple, basic singles - fundamental hitting - and some aggressive baserunning got us the three runs we needed to come back and win it. |

13-1 win over West Cobb Burgundy box score This was not a game I looked forward to, because West Cobb hadn't lost a game yet in 2.5 seasons at Blackburn this year (in fact, they only lost one or two in all of 2008.) We had two subs but were pretty much our regular team, and we came out to play. This was just one of those games you remember for a while; we scored early and kept it up, and played very solid defense. They didn't even get a run across until the fourth inning. In the bottom of the fifth, we started with our 10-1 lead and kept hammering away until, suddenly and magically, we tipped the run rule into effect and heard the magic word: BALLGAME! This was a big win. |
