13-11 win over Dakota box score We started our Thursday season off with this game against perhaps the most consistently powerful team in the league. After two innings, it was tied 6-6, a score which remained until the fifth. In the bottom of that inning, we exploded for seven runs, and held the lead through the top of the sixth, when time ran out as they finished batting. |

14-11 win over George's box score This game didn't start well for us - we were down 0-6 after two innings. We scored six in the top of the 4th to tie it up, and from there it see-sawed until the seventh. We were down 7-11 going into that final inning, as time ran out, so we had to get it done. We scored four to tie it up again, 11-11, and we held them scoreless in the bottom of the inning. Neither team was able to score in the 8th inning, so we went to the 9th, and strung a bunch of singles together to make three runs. Solid defense in the bottom of the inning cemented this win for us. |

9-7 win over Slap a Pitch Crew box score This one was messy from the beginning; Our scheduled first-round opponent in the tournament was the Dekalb Bears, but only one player showed up - their coach. We faced Slap a Pitch Crew in the next game, and in the first inning, they sent the coach from the Bears up to bat! I was playing catcher and quickly pointed out to the umpires that someone from another team can't sub in the tournament, and they agreed. This caused some in the other dugout to lose their minds, and from then the entire game got taken up a notch, with some harsh words exchanged. We led 1-0, then we led 4-0, then they cut our lead to 4-2, then they took the lead 5-4, then they extended their lead 7-4, then we cut their lead to 7-6. Heading into the seventh inning, that was the score...until we scored three, took a 9-7 lead, and held them in the bottom of the inning to advance to the tournament finals. |

13-9 win over Aces High (post-season tournament, round 1) box score Aces High had owned us like 90% of the time over the last few years, and after two innings here, they were up on us 7-2. We scored five in the bottom of the third to tie things up, 7-7, and added two more in the fourth to make it 9-7. In the middle of the sixth, we were still up, 10-9, and we got to go bat with the clock winding down...but not before we scored three more and ended up with a 13-9 win. |

Venom summer post-season tournament (mens' league, not co-ed) season and tournament summary This isn't DH co-ed softball but it's a great story and deserves inclusion in 2011's softball highlights. After a 9-1 season and a first-place finish, we had a bye in the first round of the tournament. In the second, we absolutely crushed the Concrete Donkeys, 23-3 in just four innings. This put us in the championship game against the #2 Lagerheads. We took a 6-2 lead after one inning, made it a 10-2 lead after three, and entered the seventh and final inning up 11-3, needing just three outs to seal the deal. However (and as expected) the Lagerheads fought back hard, plating five more runs before we finally shut them down and won 11-8. (It should be noted that afterwards, parts of the two teams eventuallt met up for a drinking spree of epic proportions.) |
