note: To qualify for a batting title, a player has to have played in at least half of the total games actually played that season, i.e. someone who plays 2 out of 10 games and goes 6-for-6 with a perfect 1.000 average will NOT win the batting title for that season.

note #2: Batting average, while a useful statistic, is not a complete measure of productivity at the plate. OBP (On-Base Percentage) includes walks and factors in the patience that many hitting leaders often lack. An even better indicator of overall productivity would be OPS (On-Base Percentage + Slugging) where Slugging is your total number of bases divided by your at-bats. I may get these stats posted if I ever have time to compile them all.
